[Writer: Lucie Jean]

Houston Texas native Brian Angel is back! Best known as a member of the male R&B/Soul group “Day 26.” Millions tuned in as they watched the groups story unfold on MTV’s highest rated tv show, Making The Band 4. Their self-entitled debut album entered as the biggest-selling album from a male R&B group in the 17- year history of SoundScan. Singles like “Got me Going” and “Since You Been Gone” skyrocketed into the #1 spot on the Soundscan/Billboard 200 in its first week of release. The Day 26 album also topped as Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

We got a chance to catch up with Brian and talk his new album “THE WHOLE TRUTH” inspired by his real-life situations due for release late 2018. His out now single “#AWEsome, and Day 26’s 10th year anniversary tour currently touring across the United States. Check it out!

Please tell us about your album entitled “THE WHOLE TRUTH” that you’re working on?

“It’s pretty much me. I did not want it to be what everybody expected it to be, I wanted it to be me. A lot of people look at me as the rebel in the group or the bad guy in the group and I wanted to play off of that…I took the time out to actually do me and express me. “THE WHOLE TRUTH” is just Brian. The realness the rawness… Me.”

Your new single “#AWEsome” is amazing! What real life situation was this song inspired by? And what are some of the awesome things that you appreciate in life?

“Yes that song was inspired by a real life situation… okay I was in the strip club one night! I actually met a young lady there and she was awesome! That’s the only other way I can express it. Everything about her was awesome. I actually used her for my artwork cover. “

What can your fans expect from Day 26’s “A New Day”? And does this mean Day 26 is back together?

“What you can expect is an amazing album that we put together. I’m really excited about it because this album shows a lot of growth with Day 26 not just vocally, us as in men. We kind of grown out of that little boy stage into our … you know we got a couple of chest hairs now and we’re flaunting that!”

What was the inspiration for the title of the tour? And how much involvement did you have in the tour city picking process?

“As far as the album title I came up with it. This is kind of like our fresh start. No more bad boy. No I was not included in picking the cities but as long as Houston’s apart of it I’m cool with it."

In your opinion, what is a good live performance and what’s your approach to performing on stage?

“A great live performance to me… is like high energy from top to bottom. I love that. I absolutely love that. I’ll spend my money on that any day."

How do you balance out touring, recording in the studio and personal life?

“I have my own recording set up at home. I pretty much engineer myself. Everything you hear from my mixtape out of Datpiff right now and from my upcoming album “THE WHOLE TRUTH” I engineer myself and my boy mix and mashes everything. He keeps me human because sometimes I can become this human music box and become so engulfed in music. I like recording at home."

What has been the most unforgettable moment while being on tour?

“Wow its kind of a long story… I wouldn’t say it was while on tour. Something that was memorable to me was like winning a BET Award… that kind of was like these guys were for real and our peers recognized that we were for real instead of just a reality tv show group..."

Which ingredient do you think makes you special and unique as a performing artist?

“My energy. My personality. Excuse my language, I’m goofy as shit! I talk to the crowd, I talk to the fans. I try to make them feel as comfortable as possible. I like to make people laugh. My showmanship I think really strong and I bring the element of laughter. I think those are my strong points.”

Tell us something about your songwriting process please. What usually comes first the lyrics or the beats?... Where do you get inspiration for your songs?

“Well for me it’s easier to write to a track that I hear. Sometimes the track will speak to me and I’ll write what it’s saying. There have been songs that I’ve written prior to getting the music and I’ve sat with producers and they brought that song to life. But, I do prefer having a track before I get to writing it.”

Which artist are you currently listening to? And is there anyone of these that you’d like to collaborate with?

“I like people like Kevin gates. I love Cardi. I would love to work with her. And I would definitely, like this is a MUST, I don’t care I have to do something with Kehlani!”

Is there a particular song of yours that moves you emotionally or that you absolutely love the most?

“There’s a song on my SoundCloud that just released about a week ago and it’s called “Daze”. That song was done at a time of my life where I felt like I lost everything. From my relationship to whenever Day 26 first split up to kind of feeling lost. I didn’t know what the next step was or the next chapter was...When you listen to it it’s so powerful. Another song is actually on my album it’s called “Bad Intentions”. I’m excited and I can’t wait for the world to hear this project. This project from top to bottom is going to be amazing. I’m excited!”

When Asked what genre Brian would classify his solo artist music now a days he came up with his very own. “I like to call it Raw&B. #Raw&B Brian Angel said it! Brian Angel's debut album as a solo artist will be releasing late 2018 and you can count on him to channel those genuine soulful sounds with his raw style yet entertainingly pleasurable music. Not to mention Day 26’s 10th anniversary tour is happening right now across the United States.
